Travel Book Sketches

On Monday mornings, my mom and I like to go somewhere (Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, etc) to do stuff. When I was still homeschooling, I would always bring some school related thing to work on. But now that I have graduated, (even though I have officially ‘graduated’, I will always be a homeschooler at heart) 🙂 I like to take my sketch book, or my computer with me to those places.

Here are some of my most recent sketches.

This first one ^, I drew last week while sitting in Barns & Noble. I was looking at the travel books, and saw this ‘small parish church’ (that’s what the book called it) on the front of one of the books about Germany. It is in a town called Ramsaw. I haven’t really finished it, but I thought it would be cool to show you. 🙂

This one ^, I just drew today. Once again, haven’t really finished it, but it’s getting there. 🙂 Once again, I was looked at a travel book. (You can find some really amazing pictures to sketch from in travel books.) This house is in Georgetown, Washington DC.

Sunflower snack

I saw this idea on Pinterest a few weeks ago, and I thought that it was such a cute idea!

I love the idea of food being both yummy, and pretty at the same time.

I had some friends of mine coming over one evening, so I decided to make this!

The flower pestles are just cheddar cheese cut into triangles, with blackberries in the middle, (the original idea on Pinterest was to use grapes, but I thought the black berries looked a little more like the actual middle of a sunflower.) And a pice of celery as the stem! And voila! You have a sunflower snack platter. 🙂

(I also added some crackers on the side, you know, to go with the cheese.) 🙂

Beauty in the Creepy Crawlies

I took these pictures a few months ago. I was just going through some of my old pictures on my computer when I ran across them. And  thought that you guys would like to see them!

I remember it was one of the weirdest things. My mom and I were out side, I was doing some studying for an exam, and this caterpillar just fell out of the tree and landed on my book! Literally, just PLOP. Right there. 🙂 And it just crawled around the book for a while. Eventually I picked it up and put it safely on a plant. But not before I took these pictures.

It’s cool how just the most random little things (like a caterpillar falling from the sky), can make for such a great photo subject! 🙂

It’s pretty amazing how there is beauty in just about everything. It reminds me of this song by a band called ‘Gungor’. In one of there songs, there are these lyrics that go; “You make beautiful things, You make beautiful things out of dust.” (It’s a super duper fun song to sing by the way.) 🙂 Here is a link if you are interested in hearing the whole song

Hope you all have a beautiful day! 🙂

Flying Keys

One of my new years resolutions is to do one thing from Pinterest every month.

For those of you who don’t know what Pinterest is, it’s a place where people can “pin” stuff that they like (recipes, craft projects, work out tips, fashion ideas, etc) on to their different “boards” (or files).

It  can get kind of addicting, but you can find some super amazing ideas!

So, this is what I did for this month’s Pinterest challenge.

Now, for those of you who are not Harry Potter fans, this will probably seem like kind of a weird thing to do. Why would you want keys hanging from your celling? Well, in the first book of the Harry Potter series there are these flying keys. And the main characters have to try and catch the right one to open a door.

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. So when I saw this idea on Pinterest I knew I just had to do it!

There were actually really easy to make. Just some old keys, sturdy paper, scissors, a hot glue gun, a few clear thumb tacts, and some fishing wire. And voila! You have flying keys. 🙂

Beauty in Your Own Back Yard

The other day I was sitting in my back yard, not really doing anything, just sitting and thinking. Not too exciting right? Well, I happened to have me phone (which has a camera on it) with me. So, I decided to start taking pictures. Not because I saw something and thought that it deserved a picture. But mainly because I was board and taking pictures sounded like fun. Well, I got a bit of a surprise! I started taking pictures from different angles, and in the process, discovered that  just by doing a different angle, you can get some really cool pictures! (And just so you know I, didn’t edit any of these.)

For this one, I simple held my phone super close to the ground, pointed the camera up, and took the picture.

When I was taking is one, I was actually laying on the ground, looking out over our pool.

Same as the one above, I was laying on the ground when I took this picture. The only thing different is that I flipped over.

Pretty neat I think! 🙂
